Parks Forum

Parks Forum is the peak industry association for park management agencies in Australia and New Zealand.

We represent agencies which have management and stewardship responsibility for the full range of parks across the parks spectrum, from smaller urban parklands and forests, through to larger national parks and protected areas.

Parks Forum Board Meeting

20th - 21st April 2009 saw Parks Forum hold one of its twice yearly Board meetings and the first Strategic Planning session.

Parks Forum Board meeting brings together board members from across Australia and New Zealand to consider key governance issues, new member applications, discuss the progress of projects and strategic objectives, and consider key industry papers for ratification.

In addition to the conduct of a range of standard board business, the group focused in detail on two documents in development:

  • Our Research Strategy. The board discussed the first draft of the strategy and provided further advice to our Values and Research Standing Committee on its development; and

  • Our Industry Agenda. The board has approved this document with some small changes, and we will now move to a design and print stage

Parks Forum Chairman Neil McCarthy said “A number of our projects are coming to fruition in the coming year. As they come on line, members will have the opportunity to launch them in their own constituencies to help profile their own work, as well as the work of the industry as a whole.”

Strategic Planning Session

On Tuesday 21st April, the Board and Trustees of Parks Forum came together to review its Strategic Plan, in the first of what will be annual reviews undertaken by this group.

Hosted by Brisbane City Council and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service at Brisbane Forest park, the group reviewed the changes which have taken place since the creation of the five year plan, the achievements and growth of Parks Forum since that time, and on what our focus needs to be to take the organisation forward.

Work is now underway on updating the strategic plan, and once complete and approved by the Board, will be published in the member section of our website.

All members are encouraged to become actively involved in delivering the Parks Forum Strategic Plan. If you wish to get more details, please contact David Clarke and his team at info@parksforum.org
