Held concurrently with the World without Parks? conference, this forum presents a unique opportunity to recognise aspiring young professionals in the parks, recreation and protected area sector, bringing them together and building their leadership capacity for future parks management and leadership.
Benefits:
Participants will explore the future generational challenges for the parks sector, and consider the issues which must be tackled now, to ensure its sustainability. They will also explore industry workforce issues, and consider the draft Parks Industry Agenda.
The forum provides great opportunities to foster inter-agency relationships and networks. Senior industry figures will also engage with the participants.
The Young Leaders Forum program:
Registration to the Young Leaders Forum includes:
- Participation in the conference Welcome Function event on Tuesday 20 May, from 6pm at the New Zealand Maritime Museum;
- The Young Leaders Forum, Wednesday 21 May; and
- A half day site visit to
Arataki on the morning of Thursday 22 May.
Note that, as an ancillary event to the World without Parks? conference, registration for the Young Leaders Forum does not include full registration to the Conference.
The program for the Young Leaders Forum is designed to cultivate leadership capacity in young professionals for future park management. It will offer young parks professionals the opportunity to explore contemporary parks issues, engage with parks industry leaders, and express their views on industry development. There will also be a focus on career development.
How it fits in with the World without Parks? conference program:
The outcomes of the Forum will be presented to the Parks Forum A World without Parks? conference on Thursday 22 May, providing input into the new Parks Industry Agenda, including strategies for the industry to take up in the pursuit of the agenda. The results of the Forum will also be distributed to heads of park agencies, along with details of contributors.
Registration by nomination:
You are invited to nominate one or more promising young professionals from within your agency to participate - whether young planners, park rangers, indigenous land managers, biodiversity conservation researchers, conservation campaigners in NGOs, outdoor recreation workers or individuals working in tourism/health and sports sectors using parks.
Attendance for the Young Leaders Forum is NZ$300.
