Parks Industry Benchmarking and Management Effectiveness Workshop

Benchmarking, performance measurement, best practice, management effectiveness, and governance: are these just jargon words for managers or are they instruments that assist park management agencies to foster a healthy parks and protected area system that conserves the environment and supports community wellbeing?

Parks Forum has identified a myriad of local, state and national government benchmarking and measurement schemes, as well as international programs developed by organisations such as WCPA/IUCN.

As the peak industry association for park management agencies in Australia and New Zealand we advocate and foster collaboration on benchmarking, performance monitoring and the subsequent development of industry standards. Adoption of an industry scheme provides the opportunity to communicate the significant range of environmental, social, cultural and economic benefits provided by parks across our two nations and beyond.

We value input from the parks industry and encourage you to participate in this significant workshop.
The workshop will appeal to Senior Managers and Technical Specialists responsible for the development, implementation and reporting of organisational and legislated performance measures.

The workshop will:

  • Present current international and national benchmarking and management effectiveness programs; including the Parks Forum ‘Great Parks Network Benchmarks’ and the IUCN/WCPA Management Effectiveness Framework;
  • Compare current benchmarking programs that are applied to parks and protected areas, such as State of the Parks Reporting;
  • Investigate and compare the role of key performance indicators, benchmarks and best practice in assisting management agencies to achieve their aims; and
  • Critique the Parks Forum ‘Parks Industry Performance Framework’ with the aim of creating a schema for organisational, park system and operational benchmarking, reporting and ultimately enhanced on-ground management.

Join Parks Forum and Bill Carter, Associate Professor of Heritage Resource Management, University of the Sunshine Coast at this workshop to debate the current systems and create a program for the future.

Healthy Parks Healthy People: A Parks Industry Workshop

Parks Forum is pleased to announce the wider release of the highly acclaimed parks positioning and marketing initiative, Healthy Parks Healthy People. Through the adoption and use of Healthy Parks Healthy People our industry will build a stronger understanding in the wider community of the values of parks.

Through a special new agreement, Parks Forum and Parks Victoria have negotiated a 10 year license, allowing Parks Forum to sub-license the brand to our member agencies across Australia and New Zealand in order to share the practice of growing the brand nationally and internationally.

The Healthy Parks Healthy People brand is one which the industry will invest in over the coming decade, across Australia and New Zealand. With combined investment and exposure, we have great opportunity to profile parks more highly than ever. Healthy Parks Healthy People has the potential to sit within the existing brand pyramid of parks agencies and works well with other existing government initiatives.

Participants at the workshop will:

  • Discuss the potential of the brand when used industry-wide;
  • Learn about the licensing conditions for participating agencies;
  • Hear about existing IP and programs developed under the Healthy Parks Healthy People brand, which are available to be shared with participating agencies; and
  • Hear from agencies currently using the brand about the benefits accrued and potential from adopting Healthy Parks Healthy People.PV

This workshop is proudly delivered by Parks Forum in partnership with our sponsor Parks Victoria.
