Staff Exchanges
Welcome to Parks Forums resource pages for staff exchanges
Bringing in fresh ideas, skills and resources when they are needed most, recruiting, retaining, motivating, up skilling and rewarding staff are challenges that all park managers face. Staff exchanges between park agencies provides a valuable tool that can assist us to meet these challenges, further developing our workforce and organisations.
These pages explain some of the different types of exchanges, the benefits of exchanges to agencies and individuals. A range of tools and extensive information is provided to assist agencies and staff who want to undertake an exchange. Case studies are used wherever possible to provide practical insight as to how exchanges have worked.
The aim of this information is to help agencies increase their organisational capacity and capability to advance the conservation and recreation outcomes we are all so keen to achieve.

"In the recent, devastating, Victorian fires not only did we receive considerable fire fighting resources from other agencies in Australia and abroad - we also received two rotations of over 40 rangers to backfill critical gaps left by our staff who were fighting fires. These rangers came from other States, but most importantly came as a direct result of park agencies working together, at a time when we really needed their help!"
Neil McCarthy, Parks Victoria
"…it made a profound change in his career and performance. He brought back a number of ideas that he immediately put in practice as a field supervisory ranger. Today he is Assistant Director of Regional Operations for the South Australian Department of Environment and Heritage. He also said that the contacts developed have been of constant use since his exchange and the sharing of knowledge, ideas and concepts carries on to this day."
