Setting up an exchange or an agencies exchange program will require a number of steps, here are some best practice ideas.

The New Zealand Department of Conservation has a suggested process for setting up exchanges programs with another agency (see Policies and Documentation: Department of Conservation, NZ policy on exchanges). An adapted version of this is presented below. If contacts have already been established some exchanges, such as a study tour, can be set up with just a few phone calls. Exchanges between individuals may not require steps 1, 3 & 8.
